Jo Ward’s image, ‘Under Great-Gran’, was the undisputed favourite for everyone, as it clearly fits the brief to a tee, stirring that sense of trust felt only between close relatives.

Judge Christopher Island said; “For me this image was a standout. Two subjects, worlds apart, drawn together by the simple act of taking a drink (each in their own unique way!). The theme of trust is delicately treated. She trusts her great grandfather and he trusts his beer. I love images like this that manage to focus on common human traits. I can’t tell whether this is staged or candid which makes it even more remarkable. Beautiful subtle tones, perfect lighting, not too much to retouch.”

Jo captures the essence of the image with the description “Great-Grandpa and Great-Granddaughter enjoying a moment”.

It is now your turn to try the EOS 1wall challenges - you may have also noticed that there’s been a change to the EOS 1wall competitions. We have decided to make them bimonthly so now you have more time to capture that perfect shot!

So for April’s challenge, ‘A sense of place’, you have until midnight 5th May 2011 to upload your photos, and the winner will be announced on 1st June 2011.

This month’s challenge is being judged by Daniel Eastwood. Daniel said, “the brief relates to creating a connection with your environment. It's about capturing an image that conveys a feeling or evokes an emotion about that location”.

Daniel’s last words of advice, “remember: shoot something new. Don't pull out anything you have shot before. Take the brief on, challenge yourself and create a connection”.

So get creative, challenge yourself, and start snapping!

Let us know what you thought of this month’s EOS 1wall challenge!

Congratulations to the winners of the EOS 1Wall challenge – ‘Spontaneity’

This cheeky photograph, ‘A Brother’s Revenge’, by Peter Benning, won this month’s Judges Award for the latest EOS 1Wall challenge. The shot was taken of the photographer’s son unleashing his revenge upon a poor Barbie doll – much to the horror of his sister.

Judge, Christopher Tovo commented “I chose this one as a finalist for really hitting the brief on the head. It’s a great example of having the camera ready and capturing spontaneity. The expressions and body language between them are fantastic”.

The People’s Choice Award was snapped up by Peter Neville Goldsmith for his photograph, ‘That’s Melbourne’. Peter explained “I came out of the office to photograph the heavy rain when this chap ran across at the right moment.” A perfect example what happens when you’re in right place at the right time, and armed with your camera!

“Very impressed to see that even in torrential rain this photographer has a camera with them. A beautiful shot with a classic edge. Reminiscent of ‘the decisive moment’. It has an old school charm to it,” said Christopher.

This month’s brief attracted an array of amazing ‘spontaneous’ shots, so well done to everyone who entered! The standard was undeniably lifted this time around!

The finalists of the next brief, ‘the art of trust’, judged by Christopher Ireland, will be announced tomorrow, Wednesday 23 March, so make sure you visit the Wall to check out who’s made the cut, and to get your votes in.

Don’t forget to let us know what you thought of this EOS 1Wall challenge!

Congratulations to the winners of the EOS 1wall challenge – ‘The Edge of Darkness’

Congratulations to the winners of the latest EOS 1wall challenge, ‘Edge of Darkness’.

Shaun Jones won this month’s Judges Award for this ghostly photo, ‘Suspension’. Shaun has described the image as ‘fighting the drift into the abyss’, which definitely evokes a sense of uncertainty and mystery about the unknown. Judge Chris Budgeon also alluded to this: “I find this mysterious and mystical shot leaved me with a feeling of deep eerie silence. I can’t totally explain why I love this photo, hence the subjective nature of photography.”

The People’s Choice Award was won by Melanie Sinclair, for her photo ‘The Hitchhiker,’ taken of a person standing on the edge of darkness. Melanie has said that “Our minds fear the unknown. A sole person standing in the dim light is fearful enough. Standing at the edge of darkness, the edge of sanity.”

Chris Budgeon commented “Nicely thought out, executed and graded. Are we looking at something benign or menacing?”

Congratulations to everyone who entered! There were some fantastic shots and diverse interpretations of the brief.
