Hi everyone,

There has been lots of exciting news this month! First up, on the 26th August, we announced the awesome Canon EOS 60D! This digital SLR camera is perfect for users who are keen to experiment with new techniques and want to take their photography to the next level.

I am really excited about the great features that this camera has. In particular the first ever vari-angle screen on an EOS camera, makes capturing photos from any angle much easier...

I won’t start going on and on about how cool it is, but if you are interested in more information, follow the link to the post we did earlier. We also tried something different for this camera and sent out an interactive media release. You can read up on everything about the EOS 60D and also take a look at some cool sample images taken with the camera. Margaret Brown from online photography publication Photo Review also did an awesome review of the EOS 60D, which you can find here.

If you’re interested in adding some great new lenses to your camera kit make sure you take a look at the range of new lenses we’ve just announced including two exciting additions to our impressive L-series range: the EF8-15mm f/4L Fisheye lens and the EF70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM high-performance telephoto zoom camera lens. If you’re an enthusiast or professional photographer these lenses are going to be perfect for you!

Another exciting addition to our lens range is the new EF300mm f/2.8L IS II USM and EF400mm f/2.8L IS II USM lenses.  These lenses offer improved optical performance, closer focusing distances and significant weight reductions, making them ideal for photographers working in the fields of photojournalism, sports and nature photography.

And finally, we announced two new extenders – the EF1.4X III and EF2X III. Both extenders offer improved optical performance due to a new design, resulting in high-resolution, high-contrast images and reduced chromatic aberration. Optimised lens design and lens coatings minimise flare and ghosting. These extenders are designed as matches for the new super-telephoto lenses.

Other big news from this month, Canon has successfully developed the world’s largest CMOS image sensor.  Here is a bit of info about the sensor that is sure to amaze you:

At 202 x 205 mm, the newly developed CMOS sensor is among the largest chips that can be produced from a 12-inch (300 mm) wafer, and is approximately 40 times the size of Canon’s largest commercial CMOS sensor.

Because the increased size of the new CMOS sensor allows more light to be gathered, it enables shooting in low-light environments. The sensor makes possible the image capture in one one-hundredth the amount of light required by a 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor, facilitating the shooting of 60 frame-per-second video with a mere 0.3 lux of illumination.

Potential applications for the new high-sensitivity CMOS sensor include the video recording of stars in the night sky and nocturnal animal behaviour.

I hope you guys are as excited about the new additions as we are! Would love to hear any feedback you’ve got!
