Today, we’ve announced the winners of the World Press Photo themed competition, run on the Canon EOS Facebook page.

The challenge was to upload an image that illustrated a news event, activity or issue in your life or community. A big congratulations to Alvin Wong who received the highest number of votes to win the People’s Choice Award! Alvin wins a 50D digital SLR camera kit for his below shot titled, ‘Fallen Hero’.

Alvin was also a Judges’ Choice winner along with 17 others. The Judges’ Choice winners will have their images displayed on a digital screen outside the entrance to the official World Press Photo exhibition being held at the State Library of NSW from this Saturday, 3 July to Sunday, 25 July.

Also, the ‘Photos 1440: A day, a minute, a moment’ themed competition kicked off on the EOS Facebook page today – to enter all you need to do is upload a picture that captures a special minute in your day. Entries close on Wednesday, 7 July. Another Canon EOS digital SLR is up for grabs as well as prints of your favourite image from the official Sydney Morning Herald exhibition - Photos 1440: A day, a minute, a moment.

These competitions are all part of the Canon EOS Festival of Photography.
