The new season of Underbelly: The Golden Mile has just started and the excitement about the new installment of this Australian drama is making it one of the most talked about topics in the media and around the water-cooler. However, we think the most exciting thing is that the makers of the show are using a Canon EOS 50D to shoot stills which are included into the live action. In an article by Encore Magazine Underbelly director Tony Tilse explains the effect of stitching still images into a live action scene, “it can take about six or seven frames per second and we’ll be using it as part of the dramatic style. Those frames tend to ‘pop’ colour-wise and really give it a vibrant look, and it’s also used like flashes of memory,” he says.

Another popular television show using a Canon camera is House. According to an article by Gizmodo the season finale of House was shot entirely on a Canon EOS 5D Mark II. The show’s director Greg Yaitanes announced the news on Twitter and also took questions about the 5D Mark II. He said the camera was perfect fit for the “tight spaces” of the finale. Gizmodo says, “they used Canon prime lenses along with the 24-70 and 70-200 zoom and, believe it or not, they didn’t use an image stabilisation rig of any sort for the non-tripod shots.”
