Issues on the EOS websites

Hi everyone. Sincere apologies for the issues many of you have encountered on the World of EOS. Over the last week we have been implementing some changes to make the site more efficient but in doing so, have experienced some issues. Most of the problems have now been resolved and the site should be up and running smoothly again in no time.

For people taking part in the last EOS 1Wall challenge, ‘pairs’, we managed to retrieve all of the images that everyone entered (even those that you couldn’t see on the site) and Yervant has selected the finalists. These are now up on the site and you can get voting!

For people taking part in the latest EOS Photochains hero-chain challenge, all images uploaded in the last few days will be viewable by the end of the week – we are busy uploading all the entries as we speak! For those who haven’t entered, you have until midnight tomorrow (March 25) to enter!

Finally, any exhibitions created in the EOS People’s Gallery in the last two weeks have unfortunately not appeared on the site and will need to be uploaded again. We appreciate this is frustrating, please bear with us, and we apologise for this inconvenience.

We’re hoping with these changes we won’t have any further problems uploading images to the site. Thanks for your understanding.

Hi guys

Any news as to when the remaining 12 entries in the Hero Chain - Summer will become visible? Not sure about anyone else, but there are 12 empty boxes on pages 3 & 4.

Thanks.

I don't think that voting should be allowed to continue without the 12 other entries. It doesn't seem fair to them.

I see that voting has begun and there are images that cannot be seen still and possibly one of them is mine?  I uploaded with days to go and received an email to resubmit it.  I have done so but it is still not there???  Bit of an unfair competition IMO.  It happened to me with 1wall as well.  Is my account the problem??  Should I create a new account

Not happy :(

Where is my entry that firstly I uploaded with ample time to spare and secondly I emailed through as an 3.2mb attachment as I received an email from you to do so.  It is not in the gallery and therefore cannot be part of the voting process.  Some fair competition.  I suggest you get these issues worked out BEFORE running any future photochains and 1wall competitions.  I entered both and both times no images appeared.  It doesn't do much for Canon's reputation.

The 12 empty boxes are still there... obviously everything isn't fixed yet.  Hope it can be sorted soon!

I am in the same boat as the other 11(?) in this discussion re having entered the comp early, even responding to the Canon email to resubmit via email and still not there. Its a bit disappointing that these entries have missed out on votes - even though we entered earlier than some of the others.

I have asked heaps of Canon using friends to join World of EOS and enter the photochains as well - their entries are up and they are looking for mine.....

Any updates please?

Thanks heaps.

Thanks for your patience.

Perhaps while you are sorting a solution it might be possible to reset all votes, to put everyone on a level playing field. Personally, I've withheld casting my vote in case there is a winner amongst the mysterious '12', but others may not have been aware of the problem. Starting anew would return fairness and transparency to the competition (and Canon), and generate new interest and activity on the site.

Regards,

Thomas.

I don't know what use that would be Meredith. I'd say that most votes have been cast already that there would be few who would be waiting for the rest to show.

Unless you reset the voting and get everyone to re-vote then I am going to say 'too little too late' for this entry and hope that you guys can get your act together for the next entry.

Attention Photochains entrants:

Again we cannot apologise enough for how this month’s Photochains competition has unfolded.  As most of you would be aware, this competition has been running since May 08 and has never faced any issues. What we are currently facing is out of our control and to do with a central server, however we are working hard to get this fixed.

The remainder of the images we have been sent should be visible on the site from 2pm today (Tuesday 30th). We will only be counting votes from this time until voting closes on Thursday to ensure the competition is as fair as possible and without changing timings and impacting future Photochains rounds.

Sincerely, Meredith

I honestly wonder if user-submitted votes are actually counted? I suspect not. In one of the earlier 1Wall competitions, the judge's choice and people's choice icons were displayed on the same day as voting opened. They were removed pretty quickly, but sure enough, at the end of the public voting period, that same image was selected as the people's choice. I don't vote anymore, the people's choice is decided by Canon, not the people.

Hi Meredith, thanks for finally get the systems issues sorted and having the missing Hero Chain photos finally uploaded. By the above comments, it really shows that EOS people are quite passionate about this competition and their photos - let's hope that all will be fixed in time for the next comp.

Happy voting all!

Hi Meredith,

Thanks for the updates but this is not on.

"We will only be counting votes from this time until voting closes on Thursday to ensure the competition is as fair as possible"

So I voted before the problems were fixed, but now my vote doesn't count and I can't vote again. How is that as fair as possible?

Hi Steve,

Just wanted to let you know that votes are most definitely tallied every round to decide the people's choice winner. I'm unsure of the occassion that you are talking about but please be rest assured that each people's choice winner has been decided by the highest number of votes.

Hi Brendon,

We have reset voting privileges which will enable you to vote on the current Photochains challenge. We assure you that the next Photochains hero-chain challenge will run much smoother.

Many thanks, Meredith

No point - still broken and this false hope that you are giving me that 'all is good' and 'reset the voting' hasn't helped me see past the 'I'm sorry an error occured while processing your request.' when I click on My Hero Chains Submission.

Still can't see my photo and I won't be able to submit another entry next time either because of this error.

Get your DBA to check if there is a missing / corrupt record in the hero chains table. Find out which line of code is having a problem - turn on non-friendly error messages on your ASPX page or something! Just get it fixed. No excuses!

I'm having extreme difficulty actually MAKING a gallery. It keeps telling me there was an error and the only things the pages suggest it that I've either mispelt the url even though I clicked the create exibit like, that the link is old and no longer in use and that i should try again later. I REALLY want to make an exibit but it just wont work.. any idea on what to do?
