Congratulations to the winners of the first EOS 1wall competition! The theme for this challenge was ‘Emotions’. Judge Graham Monro chose this theme because emotion is such an important element to a photo – I’m sure you’ll all agree that the winning images have definitely proved this!
The “Judge’s Choice” winning image was taken by NaomiFrost and titled Roger. This amazing image shows Roger the clown considering retirement as the clowning industry is not what it used to be. Graham says the shot of Roger really stood out because ‘it has great composition and mood and is a well executed and thought out image’.

The below image taken by dpetranker was voted as the “People’s Choice” winner. Graham commented that it was ‘gutsy and heart wrenching’ and it’s easy to see why this image was a favourite.

Thanks to everyone who entered, there were some outstanding photos. The theme for the next EOS 1wall is ‘In Motion’ and will be judged by EOS Master, Mark Horsburg. You’ll need to upload your entry by 17th January. Graham’s advice to those competing in the next wall is to ‘read the brief, be artistic and go out on a limb.’
On another note, we had a quick chat to Graham recently and asked him a couple of questions about his career as a photographer that we thought you might be interested in! Here it is…
1. Given you’ve recently become one of Canon’s six EOS Masters, tell us about your history with EOS. I have been using Canons since the 70s. I updated to all new Canon gear in 1984. The Canon Professional Services (CPS) guys really support working professionals, they are up to date on all the latest gear and what the industry is doing. I like to be involved with the best, that’s why I’m with Canon.
2. What inspires you as a photographer? It’s a great community of photographers with the AIPP and Sydney is really set up well with lots of competitions and exhibitions. Life and light inspire me with photography. It opens a lot of doors for me and gets me to meet lots of interesting people.
3. Do you have a career highlight? Travelling to Mongolia in 1984.
4. What equipment do you use and what is your favourite item? I have two 5D Mark IIs and seven lenses. At the moment my favourite is the 50mm Macro – it’s lightweight and I always carry a camera so I don’t even realize it’s on my shoulder.
5. Do you have a favourite image that you’ve shot? Vince and his dad (below) are one of my favourites. It was a finalist in Head On this year and also in M.I.L.K – the International competition/book and exhibition.

The photo is titled "PADRE E FIGLIO" (Italian for father and son) and was shot at a wedding.
"I was commisioned to shoot this wedding by Vince Lagano ,a handsome young art director when he married the gorgeous graphic designer Angela Manconi. This photo was taken at Vince's family home at Auburn in the lounge room. It was a classic Italian Australian loungeroom, ornate with religious icons and immaculate. Vince was standing with his dad Guiseppe and put his arm around him. Guiseppe lent on Vince and let out a sigh and said "Ah Vince my son" as Vince kissed him. It was a classic moment, the fourth frame of five shot in that sequence. It epitomizes all that is good of weddings Love, Family and Friendship."
