The wait is over... Canon EOS 1wall launches!

Today, Canon EOS has launched its latest challenge for you enthusiast photographers out there - EOS 1wall.

EOS 1wall provides a series of monthly challenges that should fill the void now that the 2009 EOS Photo5 competition has come to a close.

Each month a different EOS professional photographer sets a theme for that month’s challenge and that same photographer will determine the winner. You have until December 7 to submit your shot for this month’s EOS 1wall ‘Expressions’ judged by Graham Monro.

You’ll also be able to vote each month for a people’s choice award. Along with the glory, both the judges’ and the people’s choice winner will receive a large A2 print of their shot to celebrate their win.

Enough from me... go and check it out! http://www.canon.com.au/worldofeos/1wall

In regards to the Wall1 comp, I have read through your help section as well as terms and conditions, and can find nothing referring to when the entries have to be taken.

So am wondering if entries have to have been taken specificaly for the subject each month, ie: not taken untill after the topic is announced.

Or if it is ok to submit something taken anytime before that, but fits the brief.

Thanks for your help,

Lea Hawkins

p.s I just noticed that here you say this months topic is "expressions" the website says "emotions", both pretty close! but still, I'm assuming it's "emotions" as the the topic.

Hi Lea, thanks for your query. While Canon would prefer you to take an image specifically to meet the EOS 1wall brief, this is not a mandatory and you can submit a shot you have previously taken.

Yes, you're right, "emotions" is the current theme. Sorry for causing confusion!

One entry per person? Barac doesn't seem to think that rule applies to him/her. Canon, please put better systems in place to make the playing field fair and even.

I have just been looking through the entries for this months "emotions" challenge and notice there are several photographers that have more than one image on the wall - Are we allowed to enter more than one photo?

Nov 30 2009, 12:14 PM

Anna said:

Hi X and P, yes, there is only one entry per person.

We've put the best systems possible into place to make sure that you can only enter once, however some people do hack into the system to bend the rules.

We will ensure that only their first entry is looked at by the judges.

Hi Anna, if people are hacking into the system and bending the rules as you put it why would you even consider their first entry?  Why wouldn't they just be disqualified for cheating?

Hi there,

Shouldn't we still be in phase one of the competition?  As I read it in the 'terms and conditions', the timings are as follows:

Challenge one: Challenge announced 23.11.2009 / Upload Period 23.11.2009 - 7.12.2009 11.59pm AEDST / Judging Period 8.12.2009 – 15.12.2009 / Shortlist announced 16.12.2009 / Voting Period 16.12.2009 - 04.01.2010 11.59pm AEDST / Winners announced 05.01.2009

I had hoped to upload an entry today, yet the site says that the Pro Judge is now judging the entries?

thanks.

Hi Thomas, you're absolutely right! We didn't mean for the site to say that. We've fixed it and you can still upload until tomorrow morning. Thanks for letting us know.

Hi, me again, Last night I tried to upload at 6:00pm Perth time which is about 9:00pm Sydney/Melbourne time. If the competition closes at midnight, which time zone are is the Canon 1Wall site using please?

Thanks. Just so I know for next time. I'm guessing somewhere in New Zealand, maybe.

Hi Belinda, how odd! It is using Sydney time. Can you email 1wall@canon.com.au with your details so they can look into this for you? Thanks!

Hi Anna,

Just curious as to whether you are still processing entries made on the last day of the first phase of the competition? After getting your reply I entered my image, and yet it's still not viewable in the gallery over 48 hours later. I put it up about 10.30pm NZ time on the 7th.

Thanks again,

The Terms and Conditions clearly state that all submissions must have a title and a description, yet several finalists do not. Why were they selected as finalists given they did not abide by the rules?

Dec 16 2009, 08:36 AM

X said:

Steve, you should use your people's choice vote with that in mind. We can't control what the judge will pick as a finalist. We can't control his vote. But we can control OUR vote. Power to the people's choice award!

Thanks to Canon for supporting Photograhic art!

Anna said:

Hi Steve, the T's and C's request a description and title but it's not mandatory. The only mandatory is that "each entry will be required to meet the specified criteria of the wall/theme to constitute a valid entry". Hope that clarifies things!
