It’s what you’ve all been waiting for... Canon EOS has announced the winners of its 2009 EOS Photo5 competition.

The winning images are fantastic, incorporating a mix of mysterious settings and private moments to beautiful silhouettes and colourful displays of action.

You can check them out on the World of EOS.

Thanks to everyone who took part this year. As usual, you surpassed all our expectations! And for those looking for another challenge, I’ll be posting shorting about the new World of EOS challenge, EOS 1wall.

Congrats to all the winners and a top effort made by all the participants this year. This competition proves to be more and more addictive with each coming year :)

Now to see what Canon have in store for us with the elusive 1Wall challenge....

Big congratulations are in order for the winners. There's some truly deserving entries amongst those chosen. To the five beaming hearts in Australia, hope you enjoy your trip and your new gear!

I'm looking forward to the Photo5 event next year. My bet however, is that none of this year's judges will be judging again next year. When the 'blame game' reaches such heights as it did this year, judges tend to have very, very short lifespans.

I was a little disappointed to not win, as most finalists would be... but I was beaten by the shot i thought was best overall, well done to everyone. Can't wait till next year. At least we have photochains and now this 1Wall comp to keep us occupied.

Hello, I'm so Sorry I haven't posted my comments and thoughts in regards to the judging process as yet. I've only just returned home from overseas to see a whole lot of comments (mostly negative, which is totally cool too) in regards to the judging and the choices made. Thanks to everyone that had a go at the portraiture part of the competition. I think the idea and the aim of this competition is to get people involved and to enjoy taking photos. Which is why we all got in to photography in the first place and why I pick up a camera most of the time now. From the looks of the entries it seemed like most people had fun with the brief, so why not look at it as a great chance to be involved in a unique project rather than looking at it as a negative that you didn't win. Again, I thank those that entered, congratulate the winners and apologise for my lack of comments this far. I will post a response to each of my selected entries within the week. (especially the fridge portrait, which is taking the most heat). Thanks, Chris

Now I don't know many other finalists that are interested but I would like to know how the voting went. I would like to see the 'score board' for the finals be displayed on this blog.

..and still waiting for Chris Searl's comments...I'm over this..I'm VERY disappointed he hasn't had the fortitude to provide any comment. I'm also disappointed in Simon Harsent for not sharing his reasons.  I think they are both treating us with contempt!

Hi, Congrats to the winners. I do however feel that the practically black finalists are good, but not special. There were some truly remarkable shots in there that should have won. Also I find it strange how an owner of a 5D mark II wins another one (pointless anyone??).  But seriously, there are photographers on there with great shots on 400d's! Come on Canon, at least give the poor photographers a certificate or something. Best Regards, Jon

(btw I speak on behalf of all entries except mine... I entered for fun so I dont mind).
