Upload period for the Canon EOS Photo5 competition has now begun! You have until 1st November to upload your images and go in to the running for this year’s big prize packs. From the EOS Photo5 homepage you can click on ‘upload your photos now’, which will take you to the ‘briefs’ page. From there you can select the brief you want to enter and follow the prompts to submit your entry. I hope everyone is having a great time shooting the various creative briefs! Just remember to have your photos uploaded by 1st November. Good luck!

Hi Beth,

I'm not sure what is going wrong. The best option for you would be to email photo5_support@canon.com.au and let them know your registration details and exactly what the problem is. They should be able to help you from there.

I noticed when uploading images you choose your file, click open then it appears that nothing is happening but the file is uploading in the background. Depending on the size of your file and your internet connection speed it may take up to a couple of minutes before the page moves on to the next step.

I suggest you give it a few minutes and see what happens.

Hello,

I have a question in regards to the practically black breif.  THe breif is about low light photography or photos taken in the dark...

But i was wondering exactly how much creative freedom we have in responding to the breif.  for example i would like to explain my concept but i dont want to give it away so i will try my best to come up with another example

... if the theme was windows... and the breif talked about how houses have windows... and i took a creative spin on it would be a photography of eyes with the description of these are windows to the soul as opposed to taking photos of actual windows.

This creative flexibility will affect which photo i choose to enter.

thank you

Hi Chris! I have uploaded my first entry on brief Portraiture successfully, but today I tried to upload my entry for close up brief, it did not work? It keeps saying that there's corrupt data or something? Can you help me with this?

Hi Leanne,

There certainly are images up on the website. Follow this link: www.canon.com.au/.../Default.aspx

Hi Arfi,

Not sure why you might be having that problem. Your best bet would be to email photo5_support@canon.com.au and let them know what's going on. Make sure you include your registration details.

Hi Justin,

You have as much creative freedom as you like. The brief states that it is about shooting in dark situations though, so I would try and stick to that. For example, shooting an object that is almost black wouldn’t qualify. The judges say that they are looking for images that successfully capture the mood of a low light situation but still retain details. I hope that helps.

I recently had one of my shot rejected for a particular brief for whatever reason we shant go into here, I have other images I'm considering, am I able to upload one of those? I tried this and it says I still have a valid entry in that brief.

Thanks :)

Hi Warren,

Apparently there were some issues with the website over the weekend, so if you were having trouble then, it may be worth it to try again now. If it still isn't working, email photo5_support@canon.com.au with your registration details and let them know the problem you are having.

Hi Josie and Lesley,

The website was having some troubles on the weekend so this may be why you couldn't see the photos you had uploaded. Check and see if they are with the other entries now and if not try uploading them again. If you have any trouble email photo5_support@canon.com.au with your registration details and let them know the problem you are having.

Hi Sean,

If your image was rejected then you should still be able to upload another image for that particular brief. I would suggest you email photo5_support@canon.com.au and let them know the problem you are having. Make sure you include your registration details.

I've just uploaded one of my entries (ID 10243) and for some reason there is all this weird bitmapping around the main object. It's a high res file and there is none of this appearing on my original image. Something weird happened to it in the upload process. Can this be fixed so it looks how it should look?

Hi Darren,

I'm not quite sure what might be going on there. I know I might sound a little like a broken record but your best bet would be to email photo5_support@canon.com.au. Send over your registration details and let them know what the problem is.

Hi lauren, I think i can help Beata Burian. What happens is that when you type in your name and it so happens that if your name contains the same letters in a row as another photographer you are in that group. eg my name is lia but a photographer named Williams is in the same name group as mine. Hope this helps Burian and good luck with your entry.

Hi Lee,

Whether or not you use your flash for the 'Practically Black' brief is completely up to you. The judges say they would like to see images that successfully capture the mood of a low light situation but still retain details. If you would like some tips check out the video tutorial for the brief at: www1.canon.com.au/.../practically-black-tips-and-tricks.aspx

Hi beata burian,

I think Lia's comment above might be on the right track. Could I ask that you send an email to photo5_support@canon.com.au and let them know, we wouldn't want for there to be any images with the wrong photographers details.

I've been trying to upload my entry for this and keep being told that my image is corrupt.

However, I know that it isn't. It's also well within the size requirements.

I've sent an e-mail to photo5_support@canon.com.au and can only wait.

I'm going to be really irritated if I can't enter any of my entries.

I am having 'issues' uploading any/all of my images... keep getting the message “Sorry, the image you are uploading cannot be saved. This is usually because the image is corrupt or the meta data in the image is invalid. Please close this window, then re-save your image and try again”. I have been trying now for 24 hours.

The image is not corrupt, the mata data is not invalid and I have tried loading the images from different computers (both Mac and PC), in different sizes with no result.

It's awful to think that I've spent all of this time setting up and taking these photos and now Canon's website is preventing me and obviously many other from entering... I have no other choice but to email in my entires.

Not happy Jan!

I assume they will accept emailed entries as we have no other way of submitting our entires prior to the close of competition tonight...
