It’s exciting to see the EOS community embracing the Full HD Video capability of the EOS 5D Mark II with a lot of creative videos appearing online. The camera’s design took into account user feedback, such as incorporating video into a digital SLR, and with all the creative applications we’re seeing, we think we’ve hit the mark. I’m particularly excited this week to bring you some World of EOS content that will give you an idea of what the EOS 5D Mark II is truly capable of.
We recently put the EOS 5D Mark II in the hands of locally and internationally renowned Australian film and TV series director Clayton Jacobson (Kenny; Kenny’s World) to see what the camera could do. The result was a short film called The Trainer. Clayton with a crew of three spent two days shooting in and around his father’s boxing gym and a local boxing tournament. Clayton said that he wanted to put the Canon 5D Mark II through the rigors of a low budget film shoot to see how it would perform - he was blown away by the results! You can see The Trainer on the World of EOS site under the Learn section and I'd also recommend you check out The making of The Trainer, where Clayton talks about his approach to making the film and his experience with the camera. Of course, as you watch please remember that we’ve since released the Firmware Version 1.1.0 update for the EOS 5D Mark II, which included a function to enable the manual exposure setting when shooting movies.
Finally, as part of our ongoing series of tutorials check out Chris Bray’s quick overview called Experimenting with Full HD Video. Here Chris covers the advantages of this feature on an EOS camera and shows you how you can use different lenses to achieve interesting photography effects in your videos.
