Can’t believe we are already into another month! Hope you’ve all been enjoying the updates on this blog – looks like it’s time for another one.
I’m thrilled to announce that our 5D Mark II digital SLR, which saw the introduction of Full HD video recording into Canon’s digital SLR range, was awarded ‘Best Camera of the Year’ by the Camera Grand Prix 2009 (Japan’s premier photo industry awards). As you can imagine, we at Canon were ecstatic about this, although it wasn’t exactly a surprise considering the rave reviews we have received since its launch. It’s also been selling extremely well. You can read more here.
Speaking of awards, the 5D Mark II digital SLR was also awarded ‘Best Digital SLR - Expert’ by the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) in May. The TIPA Awards are acknowledged as the most coveted photo and imaging awards, recognising the best photo and imaging products introduced in Europe during the previous 12 months. But the accolades didn’t stop there - Canon was awarded five TIPA awards in total including: Best Expert Photo Printer (PIXMA Pro9500 Mark II); Best Expert Compact (PowerShot G10); Best Professional Lens (TS-E 17mm f/4L) and Best Expert HD Camcorder (LEGRIA HFS10).
On another note, you might have seen our post last week detailing the launch of Canon Australia’s national photographic campaign - Creative for a Cause. Even though I can’t enter the actual competition (because I’m a Canon employee) it really inspired me and I took the shot below, which is now one of the examples up on the site. I took this photo to show Australia how much farmers and animals are hurting from the ongoing drought. My charity is Aussie Helpers.

Talking about being inspired, kudos to all those who’ve entered images in the EOS Photochains challenge. We’ve had over 1500 images uploaded and I’m utterly impressed with the talent that you all have. Over 200 chains have now been started so we hope you’ll challenge yourself to get even more creative and respond to the tags so we can watch them grow. Look forward to seeing the winner of the latest ‘birdseye’ tag – entries close this Wednesday (June 3) and the winner receives an awesome new EOS 500D Single IS lens kit.
Might also be a good time to mention that we are making some changes to the Photochains email system – it looks like those of you who’ve been participating in a number of chains have been receiving multiple emails. Rest assured we are refining this process to make the experience better for you. Just checking that you’re also aware that you can choose which World of EOS emails you receive to match your photography needs and wants – to do this go to your ‘My Photochains’ section and click on the ‘watchlist’ tab.
Also stay tuned for more tutorials by Chris Bray that will be uploaded onto the World of EOS site in early June. We are going to introduce four new ‘getting started’ videos that will cover topics such as advanced modes and depth of field, as well as another four ‘get creative’ videos that will provide tips on low light, lenses and flash photography. We hope you’ll check these out as we truly believe that they’ll be a great help in taking your photography to the next level.
Until next month. Happy shooting!
